7 Ways To Avoid A Dot-Con Work At Home Scam

If you are one of millions of people who are looking to find a work at home job online then you simply MUST learn to spot a scam. Online work at home scams are now frequently referred to as “Dot Cons” after the term “Dot Coms”. When you are desperately seeking a work at home job, most often that not you tend to “buy” into an opportunity without doing much research. Hundreds of dollars later you’ll find out the hard way that you were a victim of a scam! Here are 7 ways to identify a scam and how to avoid them.

1) Extravagant Claims

Many websites or work at home opportunities will promise you that you can make “millions” in a matter of days. Many will display their so called “proof of income” on their websites, which often turn out to be touched up pictures of fake checks or bank statements. Don’t fall for these “gimmicks” If you feel that these claims to riches are extravagant, then guess what? They are. Get all claims and promises in writing before you sign up or pay to join at any of these websites. Remember that if the claims are real then these companies will have no reason to deny you real proof on request. If they refuse, you KNOW it’s a scam.

2) Read The Fine Print Many fraudulent websites bury the fine print in tiny letters at the bottom or their webpage or on another page with a link to it that’s hard to find. Make sure that you read these fine prints for any clauses that can come back to bite you if ever you want your money back. Click on all the links that provide more information and make sure you read them completely. Do not simply assume that the website is legitimate. Assume that it’s a fake and let it prove to you that it’s real.

3) Look For Privacy Information

Many websites collect your personal information like your name and email address. Make sure that these website tell you exactly what they intend to do with it. If they don’t tell you what they will do with it, it’s time to move onto another website because the chances are that your personal information might be shared - or worse - SOLD to others. Make sure you don’t volunteer information such as your SSN or Credit card information unless you are absolutely sure of what the website will do with it.

4) Look For Business Name, And Contact Details.

Legitimate businesses and websites will always display their business name, address and other contact information clearly on their websites. If you do not see any contact information, then be very skeptical about that site. Shady websites won’t display

this information since they don’t want you to contact them. Do you really want to do business with suck a website?

5) Know What You Are Getting Before You Buy

Many websites refuse to tell you what they will provide you with until you pay for it. This is unacceptable. You, as a consumer, MUST know before hand what you are getting before you buy. I’m not talking about knowing the exact details of a work at home job, but you should at least get SOME idea of what to expect after you pay. If a website does not clearly state what you will receive once you pay, you might end up getting scammed. So be weary and always make sure you know what you are buying.

6) Refund Policies

Some websites clearly provide refund policies. You should be able to return the goods or ask for your money back within reasonable terms. Many legitimate websites will let you get your money back as long as you ask for it within 30 days. But some plainly state that you simply WILL NOT receive your money back. Be weary of these types of web sites. The reason they are afraid of refunding your money is because they anticipate many refund requests. This is a BIG reason for you to NOT do business with this type of website.

7) Beware of MLM type websites.

MLM or multi level marketing websites are related to pyramid schemes. These scams can be easily spotted since their claims to riches are made purely on mathematical probability and nothing else. These schemes are almost always a scam and their claims to riches are simply unrealistic in real life. If a website depends heavily on mathematical probabilities of you making money and if that is the ONLY proof they offer you, you might be about to get ripped off by an MLM scam. It’s time to move on!

The bottom line is that you simply must use common sense when looking for an online work at home job. Think of it as looking to buy a new car or a house. Use the same attitude, even though the price tag is much smaller. Remember that the risk involved is almost the same since you are investing your hard earned money or lifetime’s savings on ONE website. So you better make 100% sure that you aren’t the next victim of “Dot Con” scams.

7 Tips to Setup your Home Business Budget

Every Home Business entrepreneur in the world has a clear and well defined goal: to earn money with his/her Business. Then the next question would be: how can we know if we really ?earn?or are just loosing money? Allthough it sounds trivial, it is not.

I assume that only in few cases a fellow home business entrepreneur will be able to have an own accountant to calculate the Profit/Loss sheet. So you may need to help yourself. Let?s go step by step. Setting an own Budget could help you to know ?when you are in plus?and when the opposite is the case.

A Budget is nothing else as estimating costs and income. As every ?prediction?, calculation and reality could differ. Thus it is your task to review your budget from time to time and adjust it based on real numbers. The ?real numbers?are the ?actuals?you get from your business. The ?budget?is the estimation of your costs and income. There are several applications on the market to perform the mentioned steps. For the beginning, you can use a calculation sheet.

1) Choose the periodicity of your budget. Usually you may choose weeks or months. This means you need to calculate every cost to a weekly or monthly basis. I.e. if you pay for your autoresponder 120$ a year, the monthly costs are 10$ and the weekly costs are equal 120$ divided by 52, getting 2,31$ per month

2) Make a complete list of all recurring costs you already know: i.e. Web hosting, Residual Income Fees, your autoresponder, lead subscriptions and so on. Make a complete list with all costs you already know. Consult your credit card statements and search your Paypal account for subscription payments. Transform the costs to the unity of time you have chosen in step 1 (i.e. monthly or weekly).

3) Now make a list of all ?one time?payments you plan to have this year, and calculate the accruals for the periodicity you have chosen in Step 1. Example: you plan to buy Internet Marketing Literature for 300$ this year (this is your Budget). You could calculate then a monthly ?costs?of this literature as 25$ a month, or 5.79$ per week. If you have purchased equipment (i.e. Hardware), you need to distribute the costs amount the life of the product. I.e. one PC usually is used for three years. If you pay 1000$ as one time payment, you can distribute the costs over three years, giving 333.33$ per year or 27.7$ monthly, or 6.41 $ per week. This is call ?depreciation.?. If you now that after three years you may sell the PC for 200$, calculate the depreciation accordingly, starting now from 800$ (1000$-200$). As you see, Hardware is not as expensive as you would expect, from the financial point of view.

Add the costs obtained in step 3) to the list you have already prepared in step 2). Now you have the complete list of your estimated monthly or weekly costs.

4) Now we come to the most interesting section: your Earnings! Obviously you can be in ?plus?, only if your earnings are higher as your costs. This sounds again trivial, but is not easy to achieve.

Most of the Internet Marketing Newbie?s would expect to be ?in plus? after a very short period of time. This is unrealistic. As you have seen in the first steps of the calculation of your budget, you may consider Hardware, Literature, Marketing spending and other costs that in the first months do not have the corresponding earnings. Thus, it is absolutely normal that you may have a period where you are ?in minus? for a while, till you reach your ?break-even point? (earnings = costs).

But let?s come back to the earnings. In Internet Marketing, your earnings are derived from sales. There are either direct sales or indirect sales from your downline, if you are driving an MLM like business.

Here you will see that the estimations of earnings is obviously much difficult then the estimation of your costs. Ideally, you may express your earnings as a percentage of your marketing spending. If your marketing effort is not able to produce sales, you

may review it and look for other marketing strategies. You need to achieve that every penny invested in marketing lead to internet income. IF you have tracked properly your marketing campaigns, you may be in a good position to estimate your ?conversion rate? (the percentage of your clicks that lead to sales) and thus, can express your earnings as a percentage of your marketing costs.

Example: you are running a Campaign with PPC Search Engines to promote your business. You pay 0.05$ per click and achieve 300 clicks a month. Your corresponding recurring costs of 15$ a month are already considered in your budget.
Your conversion rate may be 1%, so you expect three sales per month. If you get 8$ per sale, your monthly earnings are 24$ a month. This means your profitability is 25% (24$-15$) / 15$. For every advertising dollar you get 1.25$ sales.

The total profitability of your business will be lower, since you need to consider the total cost and not only the PPC marketing cost.

The problem may consist that at the beginning you will not know the conversion rate of your campaign, so you will need to work with estimations. Once you have the real numbers, review your estimations based on that numbers. Your Budget will get more and more accurate, the more data you can provide.

5) Now you can build your Budget based on Costs and estimated earnings month by month.

You may decide to ?reinvest? part of your earnings and increase your marketing spending month by month.

It is time now to put all data into your Calculation Sheet. Start building columns, one column per period (week or month). Per each period, reserve two columns, one for your budget and one for your ?actuals? (your real numbers).

Divide your rows in ?Earnings? and ?Costs?, subdivide them in several rows for your earnings (in the case you are working with multiple programs, reserve one row per program) and one row per each cost element identified in the steps 1-2.

Reserve a Row for a sum of all your cost elements (per period) and a corresponding row for the sum of all your earnings (per period). At the end, add one Row with the difference of your earnings minus your costs.

Now you are in the position to see period by period, what is the ?net result? of your business. You will see immediately if you are earning or losing money.

As already mentioned, it is absolutely normal that in your first months (or years?) you will have more costs then earnings. This is the case for every business. However you should be now in the position to ?predict? when your ?break-even? point will be reached (total earnings = total costs, per period). You may decide to invest more in marketing activities if they seem to be profitable, or save costs by reducing your recurring expenses.

6) Review your budget on a regular basis. The more data you have, the more accurate your budget will get. Calculate period by period your conversion rate and monitor the results of your marketing activities. Put the results back to your budget and create new Budget ?versions? for that purpose.

7) Now run your business! Your Budget is now a powerful instrument to give you a good financial basis if you are on track or not. Some people have the tendency to oversee spending and overestimate earnings. If you feed your budget with real data, it will give you an instant view of the results of your entrepreneurship! Most of the CEO´s of the world are doing exactly that. Of course financial aspects are important, but can not replace your Vision and Strategic thinking. But it can ?bring you back to the earth?, if your strategy and vision is too ambitious, but can not be financed.

7 Tips On How To Buy A Work From Home Website On Ebay

Are you looking to buy a ready-made work at home website of business on Ebay? I’m floored at how many work at home “websites” and “businesses” are listed daily. They all promise to make you a millionaire fast or that you can earn $5000 a month starting right now. Although there are legitimate listings, there are an alarming number of listing that simply scream out “SCAM!”. Unfortunately many people don’t hear it or don’t look for the signs. Before you fall victim to such a scam and waste your money, here are 7 tips to help find the right website.

1) Look out for Outrageous “Income” or “Income Potential”

Many listings claim that the website or business makes HUGE amounts of profit or has the “potential” of making a huge profit. This is your first sign of a possible scam because if YOU had a website that made $500 a day would YOU sell it? I know I wont. So why is this person selling his or her website? They always list a few “excuses” like, “I have no time to run this website” or “I build them so I can sell them”. Honestly, if you had a website that’s making you money, you would FIND the time to run it and improve it, not sell it off. Be weary about these claims of HUGE profits. If it looks too good to be true, it just might be!

2) Ask for Verifiable proof of income.

If the website is claimed to be making profit, the seller might show you a PICTURE of his or her income statement. Sadly these PICTURES can be easily altered to say ANYTHING that a person wants to - including showing profits. Pictures of Paypal statements can be easily doctored to show profits. If the profit statements are real, the owner should have no objection to faxing you a copy of the statement, plus statements for previous months. Plus the owner should be able to show DIRECT relations between the website being sold and the statements. Often owners will have multiple websites that tie into ONE paypal address. And they might show you a statement of that profitable paypal account. But the fact of the matter is that the actual profit is from multiple websites and the particular website on sale might not even be profitable. This is a business transaction so make sure you treat it like one and ask for verifiable proof. Don’t settle for mere PICTURES on a website as proof.

3) How long has the website been established for?

Many websites are claimed to be “established”. This means that the seller claims that the website has been around for some time and has regular traffic and customers. Look into the source of the traffic. The seller might have purchase “guaranteed” traffic just to make it LOOK like an established website. Demand website statistics for at least 6 previous months and study them. If you see a sudden spike in traffic, then you know something’s up. And even if you don’t see a sudden increase, where is the traffic coming from? What are the seller’s advertising methods used to get that traffic? Once you purchase the website, will you continue to get the same benefits of advertising and traffic? Is the seller willing to show you how to advertise? If so, how much will it cost per month? Do the math and see if the website will indeed be profitable after the costs. Don’t buy websites that are new yet claim to be established. Really profitable websites are at least an year old and can show you proof of its establishment. Also use tools such as www.Alexa.com and type in the URL of the website to see exactly WHEN it was established. Alexa’s reports can’t be doctored by the seller and is a credible source. Do your research before you place your bid.

4) Beware of so-called Millionaires promising to make you a millionaire.

If YOU were a millionaire why would YOU be selling information about how to become one on ebay? If you were that generous, why don’t you donate your money to charity? Or better yet GIVE that information away for free? Why CHARGE for information? I see many so called Millionaires selling their “secrets” starting
at $49.00. If you had so much money what would $49 be worth to you? It’s a drop in the ocean. Unless the seller BECAME a millionaire by selling his “secrets” for $49 to people who thought they can be millionaires themselves. So if you bought such a website, would YOU automatically become a millionaire? Or would you have to sell the SAME information to others at $49.00 a pop to become one? You’ll need to make 20408 sales at $49.00 to become a millionaire. Often, there’s always a catch like that in offers by these so-called self made millionaires. They don’t love you. They love your money and they ask it upfront. If they were in a charitable mood why don’t they just GIVE you the secret and once you make your million let you pay them $49.00 of out it? Ask them that before you buy these websites or “secrets”.

5) Be weary of instant “Cookie Cutter” websites.

Many websites on sale are simply replicates of a site and are put up for sale many times. This means that you are not the only one who’s got a website like that. This produces competition and when you are starting out, you don’t want to have a fierce completion. These types of “cookie cutter” websites lose their identity in the market. Basically the mentality of your visitors would be “You see one, you’ve see them all”. YOUR website won’t be unique. And you end up fighting an uphill battle. Opt to buy unique websites that aren’t sold many times over and over again. You can easily spot cookie cutter websites if you search ebay. You’ll see the same theme such as “legal forms” or “paid to drive” websites. Don’t waste your time or money on these. Save your money to buy a unique website. It will pay your back many times over.

6) Beware of Adsense Earning statements

Adsense is the new way of starting an instant income stream. You get paid by Google for showing ads on your website. Many websites claim they have a daily Adsense income of say $50 or a monthly income of say $3000. Work at home businesses that are SOLELY built on adsense are a disaster waiting to happen. Don’t get me wrong. Adsense is a very good source of income. But it should NOT be your ONLY income. The Adsense revenue is directly related to your website traffic. If you lose traffic you lose income. If a seller boasts high profits through adsense, ask for verifiable proof of income for previous months and see how much profits were from adsense and if it was the ONLY source of income. Don’t put all your eggs in one Adsense basket. It’s tempting but you’ll be flirting with trouble if your website doesn’t have another method of income.

7) Pay attention to the number of bids.

If a website catches your attention don’t bid on it until you can get a feel for it’s worth. The number of bids on it can give you a rough idea about what kind of an opportunity it is and whether it’s worth your time and money. If a website has 0 bids and has a buy it now price of $49.00 it’s probably not worth your money. It could well be another cookie cutter website. If the website has many bids and there’s still plenty of time before the auction ends, and the price is fairly high then it might be actually worth that price. Remember that you aren’t the only person doing research. Many bids means many others have done research and like what they found. Make sure you check out WHO those bidders are and their feedback as well. Don’t be fooled by false bids.

There you go. 7 tips on how to select a work at home website at ebay. I hope that your search will reveal the ideal business for you and I pray that you follow my tips and not end up losing your money. Take care this holiday season and spend your money wisely.

7 Steps to an Online Home Based Business

Copyright© Trent Brownrigg
http://www.home-business-team.com

I grant permission to publish this article, electronically or in print, as long as the bylines are included, with a live link, and the article is not changed in any way (grammatical corrections accepted).

7 Steps to an Online Home Based Business

Are you thinking about starting an online home based business from scratch but don’t really know how to get going? Well, then this article is for you! I have outlined seven steps to get your online home based business up and running in a matter of days, or even hours.

Here you go…

1) Defining Your Reasoning - The first thing you need to do is answer this question for yourself… why do you want to start an online home based business? Write down all the reasons for why you want to start an online business. Here are a few of the more common reasons: financial freedom, luxury vacations, more time with family, new car, new house, money for college, etc…

Once you have written down as many things as you can think of for why you want to start your own online home based business then pick the best one that applies most to you. This is what you will use as your “reason” from now on. Now write this one reason on a separate piece of paper and post it everywhere you can, so you will see it many times per day. This will keep you driven and focused on your dreams.

2) Domain Name – Since you are starting an online home based business it is obviously very important that you create an online presence for yourself and your business. So a website is an absolute must have. The first thing you need to do before you start building your website is to register a domain name. One of the best places for doing this is http://www.godaddy.com

So what should your domain name be? Well, I can’t entirely answer that for you but I can tell you that you want to make sure that your domain name reflects what your business is. Too many people use their names, some “cute” name, or some other irrelevant domain… do not do that unless it actually is reflective of your home based business!

3) Choosing a Web Host - If you don’t have a way to host your domain/website, you won’t be able to proceed with your online home based business. Yes, this is a very important step!

Here are a few things to look for when choosing a web host:

Speed

It is important to your business success to make sure visitors can see your site quickly. Part of this has to do with how fast your web-hosts servers are. Although there are a few other factors, server speeds are pretty darn important.

Customer Support

Web hosts should offer a variety of customer support options. These are typically toll free phone numbers, email support, frequently asked questions pages, live support, and help forums. Obviously the more support your host offers, the better it is for you if you ever need it.

Reliability

Checking out the reliability of a service is also very important to your website and ultimately your online business success. Hosts usually have several backup systems in case something goes wrong with the main servers. They also can promise less “down time” by backup power systems. I wouldn’t use a web host unless it has at least a 97% uptime guarantee.

My recommended web host that offers all of the above and more is ThirdSphereHosting and you can find them at: http://www.home-business-team.com/thirdsphereplus

4) Building Your Site – This will most likely be an ongoing task for as long as you have your home based business. However, just to get something up and going at first here are some pointers…

* Keep your text relevant to what you are offering.
* Do not stuff keywords in to your text.
* Do not put banners on your home page.
* Always have a catchy headline.
* Keep the site clean looking and easy to read.
* Dark text on light background is always best.
* Let your visitors know what you can do for

them.
* Make navigation very simple for visitors.

There are many more rules of website design but those are some of the basic ones that you need to worry about for now. This step is something you will always be keeping up on. Make sure you continue to learn, tweak, test, and build your site.

5) Uploading files to your site – So you have built a few pages for your new site, now what do you do? Well, you have to upload them to your web host. Typically this will be done using “FTP”. Now you are probably thinking, “What the heck is that?” Well, don’t worry about all the technical stuff. In simple terms it is a way to get the files, or pages, that you just built onto your website and “live” to the world.

You can just ask your web host for your FTP information or do some searching around the frequently asked questions in your control panel and you should be able to find this out fairly easily. Once you do it is simply a matter of putting in the information into an FTP client and watching it upload to your web site.

6) Putting your business on autopilot – This is big step in creating a successful online home based business because it keeps you from being completely consumed by it and actually allows you to enjoy your new found freedom.

One of the recipes to creating a successful online home based business is to automate as many things as possible. This will save yourself time to do things you do best and actually enjoy your business.

One of the best ways to do this is with an autoresponder. An autoresponder pretty much defines itself. It will automatically send out your emails at intervals that you set.

A great way to utilize autoresponders is to write up an e-course and/or a weekly newsletter, and then copy/paste those messages into your autoresponder, set the days you want your prospects to receive them, and voila… it’s on autopilot. You will want to have a form on your website for your visitors to subscribe to it. They will put in their name and email address and you will have a prospect to email to over and over again.

I have used many different autoresponders since I started my home based business and I can tell you without a doubt that my favorite is Aweber. I use them to this day and highly recommend them. You can find them at: http://www.aweber.com/?202740

7) Automating the sales process – The last thing you need to do to get your online home based business up and going is to setup your ordering process, so visitors to your website can buy whatever product you are selling.

The very first, and most common way people sell digital products, like ebooks and software, from their sites, is to use a 3rd party merchant called clickbank.

You can find them at http://www.ClickBank.com

Setting up an account with them is pretty darn easy to do and is quite a bit cheaper than getting a merchant account for your self. Just follow their instructions. They are well known and respected so you should feel safe with them.

Alrighty, that’s all there is to it. Seven steps to getting your new online home based business set up and going strong. I will admit that for the complete beginner it may not be as easy as it sounds but it is not rocket science either. You could honestly have all this done in just a day or two. Do some reading, learning, a little bit of guessing, and jump right in. Your online home based business will take be up and running before you know it.

If you have any questions I will be happy to help. You can find a link to contact me at the bottom of my website (see resource box below).

7 Must-Have Traits For Work At Home Success

There are a lot of reasons why so many people fail shortly after starting a home business. In order to achieve your work at home dreams there are certain traits you must possess or acquire. I have listed 7 must-have traits that I consider to be the most important. Go through the list carefully. Truly think about whether or not you have the desired trait. If you find that there are some that don’t describe you then decide how you are going to change in order to acquire it. Don’t try and fool yourself into believing you already have all these traits, unless you truly do. Fooling yourself will also be cheating you out of achieving your home business goals.

1) Self Discipline – Working at home means that you don’t have a boss or co-workers to keep you on task. When you are the boss it is easy to do something other than work. This is especially true in a home business where you have your personal life all around you. You must discipline yourself to do certain tasks at certain times every day. Do not let your home life interfere with your business just because you work at home.

2) Routine – You must avoid procrastination all costs! Once again you do not have a boss or other authority figure to keep you on task. A luxury of being your own boss is that you get to pick your working hours. Make sure you aren’t putting off work until tomorrow or the next day. Doing this will squash your home business dreams faster than anything. You must establish a work-load to get done every day and do it.

3) Persistence- People are always starting this or that but hardly anyone ever finishes once it gets a little rough. Having a home business has a lot of benefits but first you have to get through all the hurdles in the beginning. There are few things harder than building a home business from the ground up. There are also few things more rewarding once you have succeeded. It will get tough at times so you must have persistence.

4) Desire – You can hope and wish to gain financial independence for the rest of your life but it will never happen until you desire it. You must determine exactly what you want for your financial future and then let it become your obsession. Do not leave any room for failure or you will do just that… fail.

5) Purpose – In order to build a solid business you must have a central purpose. It’s easy to try and do a hundred different things at one time but it gets you nowhere in the end. People that fail don’t have a defined purpose or goal set for what they are trying to do. When you try to do too many things at once, without really knowing what you are doing it for, then you will quickly find that nothing is working. Many people just give up at this point.

6) Education – You don’t have to have a college degree to work at home. In fact, starting a home business really doesn’t require you to have much of a formal education at all. However, you must educate yourself tremendously on your particular business topic. There is going to be a lot of things you need to know in your business. Most of it can be learned on the internet or with home study courses.

7) Enthusiasm – You must thoroughly enjoy what you do in order to succeed at it. There is an old saying that enthusiasm is contagious. With enthusiasm you will have much more success getting people to do business with you. The whole purpose of working at home is to do something you like, under your own terms, so pick something you are enthused about.

Now, go back and read the list again. Do you lack any of the desired traits? Do you possess any of the negative traits? Find someone who knows you very well and is comfortable giving you constructive criticism. Have them go over the list with you to give you an outside perspective on yourself. If you find anything you need to work on, get started immediately. This is no time to procrastinate. Your future is on the line!

We all know that running a home business is highly satisfying, and at times downright liberating! No clock to punch, no dress code, and best of all, no boss to answer to. But there are also many facets of business ownership that entrepreneurs must stay on top of. One of those is keeping the expense to income ratio in balance. Below are seven painless ways to do just that.

1.To save on costly ink cartridges, print in draft mode, unless the printout is for a client or will be reproduced.

2.After spending your hard earned money on those ink cartridges, turn them into a free ream of paper! Many office supply stores offer a free ream of copy paper when you recycle a used ink cartridge at their store. Ask your local office supply store if they offer this service to their customers.

3.Make that free paper last twice as long. How many times have you printed something without spell checking it first? Use the back of those misprints for making lists and jotting down ideas. Another way to keep paper use down is to utilize the annoying sheets that often print out last with just a small ad or footer on them. Turn them over and print on the blank side.

4.Apply for a cash back/rewards credit card. Using one credit card for all of your business purchases simplifies bookkeeping and makes categorizing expenses at tax time a

lot easier. Why not earn rewards such as airline miles or restaurant gift certificates, or even better- cash, on purchases you have to make anyway? Just be sure to fully read the fine print concerning interest charges and late fees. Or pay off the balance each month and avoid both!

5.Compare prices on internet service providers. Some companies offer a discount when internet access is bundled with cable or phone service. If you are really happy with your current ISP, call and ask if they are offering any promotions that you can take advantage of.

6.Network with other home business owners and offer to barter goods or services. If you own a gift basket business, assemble baskets featuring a direct sales consultant’s products, and customers are purchasing from both of you at once. A bookkeeper can trade services with a web page designer. The possibilities are endless. You just have to ask.

7.For low cost advertising, contact organizations holding charity auctions or raffles. You supply the prize, whether it’s jewelry or web hosting, and in return you receive exposure for your business and pleasure in donating to a worthy cause.

7 Keys To Running A Successful Work At Home Business

Almost 89 percent of home businesses fail within the first month. That number is staggering and should also be an eye opener to you if you are planning on starting a work at home business. If you are just started your home based business then you specially need to be careful.

What are the keys to a successful home based business, you ask? Here they are.

1) Focus On One Thing At A Time

This is perhaps the most important key. Many home based businesses fail because the owners start too many things at the same time and thus spread themselves to thin. They believe that in order to make money, you need to do many things and run many websites at the same time. They think that having more websites give them the edge over others. When you are a beginner, your main focus should be to take on just ONE thing at a time. Stick to one website and concentrate on making it a success. Pull all your effort on this single website and make it work for you.

Once you begin to see a profit, you might consider expanding. But until you do profit, keep your focus on it.

2) Organize Yourself

Your business is an extension of yourself. If you are not organized your business will also be the same. Make it a point to organize your business or work so that you are well in control of it. You need to keep your personal life separate from your business in order to truly be able to gauge success. Start by simply separating your personal files from your business files. A little organization will help you greatly.

3) Keep Notes

When you start out with your home based business you begin to learn new things. And as you learn you will take that knowledge for granted unless you take notes and write it down. It might be notes on how to do a simple task. But if you don’t write it down, somewhere down the line in a few months you might forget how to do it. And that might cost you. If you learn something new, write it down. If you did something new, write it down. A useful guide to writing things down is to pretend that you are writing it down for someone else who has no knowledge about it. If you can write down notes so that this person can pick up your notes and accomplish the task, then you’ve done good. Remember that this “other person” could be YOU in a few months down the line. So the more you write, the easier it will be for you.

4) Keep Accounts

A home based business is a business. So treat it like one by keeping separate accounts for it. At the least, write down the things that you spend on. At the start, the spending tends to increase almost out of control. If you do not keep track of how much you spent and where you spent it at, you will find yourself in the red pretty fast. Keep a tight hold of your accounts and make sure you know it before you get “in the hole”.

5) Be Regimented

Set yourself a set of rules that apply to your business and stick to it. If you told yourself that you will dedicate 2 hours a day to your work at home business, then make sure you do it daily. If you miss one day, make up for it the next. Don’t let lethargy creep into your daily routine. Make sure you go through the paces and accomplish something each day. If you can end your day with a successfully accomplishment, it makes it easier to start the next. Be regimented and follow your plans.

6) Experiment

Don’t be afraid to try new things. Working at home is a new thing by itself. As you learn and build your business you will find out new ways of doing things that can save you time and money. But don’t try too many things at the same time. Remember to pick one aspect of your business and experiment with it. Make sure you can measure success or failure of your experiments and experiment only if you can clearly measure it. Don’t experiment with critical aspects of your business unless you can clearly measure the change. For example, don’t experiment with a new hosting provider unless you already have statistics for your current hosting provider and can compare it with the new one.

7) Don’t Neglect The Basics

Finally, what holds true to life, holds true to your home based business as well. Don’t neglect the basics. The basics are the building blocks of your business. Aspects like, collecting payment, shipping an item, following up with the orders or simply taking the time to reply emails are basics that don’t change too often. The way you do it might change but the task itself will not. So don’t neglect these basic tasks, for if left unattended, they can be cause of your downfall.

Running a successful home based business is not hard if you follow these 7 keys to success. Remember that your business is only a strong as its weakest link. I’ve shown you 7 such links. It’s up to you to ensure they hold fast.

7 Keys To Running A Successful Home Business

Running a successful home business is very different than working in Corporate America, or even working in a retail position or anything else. Our paychecks depend on our productivity. If we don’t work, we don’t get paid. My hope in writing this article, is to give some tips on how to run a successful home business. It’s not successful unless you are going to the bank and depositing money.

The first key in running a successful home business is to create a business that is marketable. For instance, I have spent many years selling cosmetics, but so many people sell cosmetics especialy being in the same town as corporate, that I couldn’t market the products. When I chose to become a coach, I chose to do so because the possibilities are limitless and I believed that I could market my services.

The next key to a successful home business is to become a part of the Din Din Club. Din Din stands for Do It Now. There are going to be things that you don’t want to do and personally speaking, I found every excuse in the book not to do those things. What do you think excuses are? They are lies that we tell ourselves that no one else believes but us. Quit making excuses as to why you can’t start a business and become a part of the Din Din Club.

The third key to being a successful home based business is self confidence. I will use myself as an example. When I first started coaching, I was afraid to approach people and talk about what I did. I didn’t think anyone would want my services. But the truth was, that as long as I didn’t believe in myself and speak about my business with confidence, potential clients wouldn’t invest their time or money into me and my services.

The next key to running a successful home business is consistency. Many people are misinformed when it comes to running a home business. The clients do not just come knocking on your door. You have to find them. When I was selling cosmetics, I found that about 3 out of 10 became customers. As I built my customer base, I learned that 3 new customers a week would not pay the bills. So I made it a daily routine to talk to 10 people a day and giving them my business card was not
enough, I had to get their number as well. But I had to take it a step further. I had to follow up with them within 24 hours. As a consumer, I look for consistency. I look for someone that is easily accessible to me. For the next 5 days, I want you to practice handing out 10 cards a day and you will see your business explode right before your very eyes.

The next key to success is marketing. In my experience, there are several marketing techniques. The first is on paper. This includes flyers, business cards, letters, or anything else that will introduce you to the community. This is very important in marketing. It makes us look credible to have professional 3 fold brochures printed and to always have business cards on us. In interviewing people who were attracted to my flyers, I discovered that the thing they liked the most was the client testimonials.

The next area of marketing is on-line. This is an important tool for gaining new business, but don’t let it be the only source of business for you. I encourage you to NOT sit in front of the computer waiting for business to come because it doesn’t happen that way. There are many tools to use such as: blogs, autoresponders, guestbook, etc.

The most important part of marketing is face to face. Check with rotary clubs, your local Chamber Of Commerce, associations, etc. When networking, the most important thing to remember is Who You Know. Who can you refer to others in the group. When you make referrals to others, they will in turn refer back to you.

All of these things come together to create the absolute most important thing in business today - professionalism. Incorporate these things into your business and people will respect you and your business.

7 Easy Steps To A Home Based Business

by BB Lee (C)200
According to the Small Business Administration nearly 20 percent
of Americans are working out of the home at least on a part time
basis.

The SBA forecast that the number of home based business owners
will continue to expand rapidly in the next decade. Why? People
hit by the recent downsizing of their companies are searching for
alternate ways to supplement their earnings.

Are you ready to take the plunge and start your own work at home
enterprise? It’s rare to find a hard working individual who hasn’t
dreamed of quitting his 9 to 5 and striking out on his own.

But there are a few caveats the average person should
take into due consideration.

Although many home business owners have experienced success,
working solo is not for everyone. It can be a hard road with
almost no rewards in the beginning. This translates to zero
profits. It may take one to two years, or even longer, before
they earn profits. Discouraging to say the least. The prime reason
why many home business ventures fail in the first few years.

Well if you are still determined to forge ahead and start a home
based venture…take a look at the following important steps.

1. Select Your Business.
Select a business you are sure you can do well in and that
people are actually willing to pay you money for.

2. Start Planning.
-What will you charge.
-Who are your customers.
-How will you reach your customers.
-How will you market your business.
-What’s your unique selling point.
-When will you open for business.
-Where will you set up your office.

3. Legal Issues.
-Check local

zoning laws.
-Decide the legal form of your business.(sole, partnership, corporation)
-Get a business license.
-Register your new business name.
-Find out if you need special type of licensing for your business.

4. Financing.
-Set up a bookkeeping system.
-Open a business account at your bank.
-Decide if you need liability insurance.
-Plan how much you will invest to cover startup expenses.

5. Home Office.
-Use a corner of your bedroom, a basement, attic, even a
completely furnished private office-if you have the space.

6. Marketing.
-Establish your business name.
-Get business cards.
-Get professional quality letterhead.
-Get the best stationery you can afford.
-Print flyers announcing your new business.
-Print brochures.
-Set up a one page website announcing your business.

7. Get To Work!
Set up a work schedule and stick to it. If you decide to work
after the children are in school. And quit before they arrive home
in the afternoon. (9 in the morning to 3 in the afternoon)

Stick to it!

Strive to work at least 10 hours per week. More if you have the
time, energy, and drive to succeed.

7 Basics to Look for in a Work at Home Business

We live in the age of the internet. No where has the internet made a bigger impact than in the area of the “work at home entrepreneur”. You want to start your own home based business. But, there are so many different ones. Some are legitimate, some aren’t. Since the purpose of your starting a business is to make money and free up some free time eventually, you certainly don’t want to waste your time and money on a scam. So, therein lays the problem. What do you look for when starting your own work at home business? The following is a list of just a few things to look for in a home based business opportunity.

Stability - With so many scams out there, one thing to look for is a stable opportunity.

What I mean is this: Look for a business that has been around for a while. I’m not saying that there aren’t new opportunities that are not worthwhile but I always like to know the business has been successful. Also, a stable company will usually let you join for free so that you can take a more detailed look at it before you invest your time and money into it.

Product - What product(s) will you be offering to others? Is it something that most people need, use, or would want? More importantly, is it something you need, would use, or want? It is impossible to market a product that you don’t use, because if you don’t use it, how can you convince anybody else to use it? Also, keep in mind that most times, you will be selling the opportunity as well, so you need to be convinced that it works before you can convince others.

Investment - How much does it cost to join this opportunity? How much is it going to cost to market your product? How does the compensation plan work? How long does it usually take before I at least break even? Compare what you will be spending to the money making potential of the business.

Training - So, you find a stable company with a product and opportunity you really like. The next step is to make sure you will get the training you need to get the word out that you have that product and opportunity. Nothing is more discouraging than having something to sell, a business to
promote, something that will benefit others, and not know how to advertise it. Make sure your business gives you ideas on how to market your product. It’s even better if they show you how to do it. Look for ways to get people to join you while your business is growing, like Guaranteed Sign-ups, or an advertising co-op.

Up-line - This goes along with the training you will get from your business. Can you get in contact with others in the business that have been successful? It’s nice to know the path others have taken to become successful in your business. They can give you helpful ideas and they can help you avoid some of the pitfalls they have encountered. It is really nice if the opportunity has a chat room or message board so that you can get ideas on how to start, how to promote and advertise, and how to respond to others as they join your business.

Potential - All the above leads to this last quality I look for in a home based business. How great of a potential is there to make money in the business? After all, that is the bottom line, isn’t it, to make money?

Your Gut Feeling - Don’t forget your most important tool-your common sense. If something doesn’t seem right, you need to back away until you get all your questions answered. First and foremost, you have to believe in the opportunity and what it offers before you can sell it to others. Make sure to get a handle on what is going on before you commit to it. Once you make that commitment, give yourself some time before you decide it won’t work.

Obviously, there are other things that you can look for. These are just some basic things to look for when trying to find just the right work at home business to place your time and money into. But, I believe if you will use these basics as a starting point, you will be in good shape on making a decision.
